New Zealand MkII - 7 th Anti Tank Regiment
New Zealand (UK) MkII combat helmet from the North African Campaign. This helmet was worn by Lt. Col. John Mitchell DSO serving with the 7th Anti Tank Regiment, 2nd NZ Division, 1941/44.
The helmet is finished in a sand coloured exterior paint with an Artillery red/blue flash painted to the side. Standard size 7 liner by BMB dated 1940. Mitchell's name has been inscribed to the brim of the helmet, inserted highlighted image makes this a little clearer.
Lt. Col. Mitchell served as CO of the 7th Anti Tank Regt from Dec 1941 to Oct 1944. He was promoted to Colonel and appointed Commander of all NZ troops in Egypt a post he served from 1945-1946, he was later promoted to Brigadier. Please see photo below.

Pictured above Lt Col John Morgan Mitchell DSO taken in August 1943 at Maadi Camp, located just out of Cairo. Maadi camp was the base camp for the 2nd New Zealand Division in Egypt and for reinforcements passing through onto Italy.
