Australia MkII
Australian manufactured variant of the British MkII, were designated "Helmet, Steel, MkII". Close to 2 million were produced by Commonwealth Steel, these were exported also to other countries like India and New Zealand.
The helmet was made with a raw edge unlike most other copies. The liner was made by Dunlop (Aust) Ltd, and in this case is a size 7 1/4 and produced in July 1942. The chinstrap luggs are also individually stamped with MkIII and a date, in this case 1942.
The Australian forces in the Western Desert began to withdraw back to Australia at the end of October 1942 due to the ever increasing threat of the Japanese who had now a foot hold in New Guinea. Australia's land forces would fight the rest of WWII in the South West Pacific region.
