The M1917A1 was commonly referred to as the "Kelly" a refurbished M1917. Between 1932 and 1936 the M1917, both US and British made, was modified with a new leather liner and a web chinstrap.
McCord Radiator Co. also produced 900,000 new M1917A1's under a contract that was terminated early to switch to the M1 in 1941 which quickly replaced the Kelly.
These helmets saw very limited combat in the early years of WWII, namely Pearl Harbour, Wake Island and the Philippines.
