Soviet Ssh40 KGB

This helmet has been over painted "Border Guard Green" and bares the insignias of the Soviet KGB (Border Guards were under the KGB umbrella). This particular helmet was issued to a Border Guard unit responsible for grand welcoming duties for foreign delegations and visiting dignataries at the Soviet Government Residence in the Crimea from the mid 1960's to early 1970's. The letters in the shield translate to PV - Pogranichnyie Volska  (Border Guards) and KGB - Komitet Gosudarstvenney Bezopasnosti  (Committee for State). The helmet is dated 1960 and is a medium (P-2) size.
