France M39 Navy Helmet
French L.E.39 Naval Helmet and AFM 34 (Apparel Filtrant de Marine) gas mask which was developed by Cpt Charles Bentin and commissioned in 1934.
A complicated and unpopular helmet designed to be worn in combat situations while on board ship to protect the wearer from gas attacks.
The rear fitting was to hold the filter securely in place, the rear was the inlet filter and the front the outlet. The shell and liner are based on the M26 Adrian but with a cut down visor, "dog clip" chinstrap attachments and the removal of the comb to accommodate the tube which extended over the top of the helmet. The colour is French Naval Battleship Grey.
