South Africa supplied MkI (designated MkII during WWII) helmets to India early in WWII, this example was issued to an Indian soldier serving in the Middle East.
The South African helmets are based on the British MkI helmet of WWI, hence the circular shape. These helmets were made in South Africa by "Transvaal Steel Pressing Syndicate" and the liner by "Jager Rand"
This particular helmet is dated 1942 and is a size 6 7/8. An Indian made camo net is present as well as the soldiers name in pencil on the inside shell, written in Hindu the name translates to "Kaul" in English.
